VisionaryCode is moving from software development to book publishing with the business changing its name to Kinclond Publishing Inc. with a new logo, the Authors Wishing Well.
The purpose of Kinclond Publishing is to help authors in the self-publishing space to help market their books and grow their publishing business.
For, years the primary method of taking your book to market was signing with a literary agent and then trying to negotiate a contract with a publishing house who would then take your manuscript and run it through their internal processes to help craft a finished novel. With the rise in e-books and print on demand services, authors who struggled to get a publishing deal can now publish books on their own.
This helps to ensure that your work has a chance of being read by a potential audience. If you were relying on the traditional publishing model and no publisher appeared interested in your work, then it may never see the light of day.
Even some of the most famous authors of our day were rejected by various publishing houses and went from publisher to publisher until someone will take a chance on their work.
Publishing is a Business
Remember, publishing is a business. A business designed to make a profit for its owners. If you were the former President of the United States or the star of your own television show, then you likely already have a massive audience. This audience would likely want to consume your book, which is why many are approached by publishers to write a book.
The book already has a built-in audience which could cause significant revenue for both the publisher and the author. However, what if no one has ever heard of you? Then the risk to the publishing house is much greater, because while they have internal teams to help craft your manuscript, when it hits the market, no one may purchase it.
Therefore, the publishers will look for those items they think in their judgement could be a hit and dismiss those that they believe won’t. That doesn’t mean your book won’t be a hit, it just means someone else doesn’t want to take a risk on it.
Enter Self-Publishing
If no one wants to take a risk of publishing your book and you believe in your book, why don’t you publish it? Nowadays all the resources available to authors through traditional publishing houses are available to the author who will self-publish their book.
Several websites offer a way to connect with editors to provide guidance along the way in crafting your manuscript. There are websites that you can use to hire an artist to craft the perfect book cover for your printed book or ebook. You can hire a layout editor to make the inside of your book visually appealing or gain software that can do it for you.
You also have several resources that can help you with the marketing of your book. On Duke’s Blog, we discuss different social media platforms that you can use as an author, including having your own website.
